Violaceous went far to the east beneath her moon and began to summon her creation magic. Water spilled, clear and fresh. A crisp swirling wind caught and spun it into a speeding funnel. A water spout shot high into the sky. She laughed and played in the spray, thrilled by her creation. She made little water tumblers, bright slippery flying fish who spent all their time dancing with the goddess in her glorious bath.
Heli began beneath his moonfire. He used both water and earth. Forests sprung up, water rushed, and tall grasses carpeted the ground. He made animals and birds, insects and snakes. And he made a woman. Her hair fell in tawny curls to her thighs, her body perfect, her eyes the green of the brightest leaves. "Human." Heli names the first mortal race. "In glory and beauty, I give you to the world." He kissed her mouth and breathed life into her and her eyes opened.
"You are called Wrenbright. Named for the wren, a small bird, for you are delicate. named bright for you are the light in the dark part of my heart."
This burst of magic was so powerful that Violaceous stopped what she was doing and went to see what it was. The light of the moonfire sparkled on her nakedness. She stared around Heli's land with the animals and trees and rushing waterfalls and of course this mortal woman.
"Heli!" she cried, "What is this!" She spread out her arms to encompass the land. "What is that?" she demanded and pointed to Wrenbright.
"It's a woman." Heli said pleased with himself. "She's not a goddess, she's a mortal, but isn't she beautiful?" Heli did not know jealousy and so he did not recognize that emotion burning in his moon wife's eyes.
Violaceous instinctively knew not to vent her rage on the mortal Heli just made. She'd learned that is best to leave Heli's creations alone, at least until she understood what they did. "You've used water. That's Mine." Her pout was pretty but her eyes were ruthless.
"Water is needed for the animals and plants. And I have water." Heli wasn't sure what she was getting at but he could see her displeasure.
"You have this earth, you have things I don't. Is it so much for you to let me have my water? I'll let your earth drink. I have a whole land of water!" And she laughed with enchanting joy.
This made Heli take her in his arms to feel her wet skin against him. "Show me." he whispered and together they went to the land of water.
It was as she'd said, a racing spout of water. "Spectacular!" Heli cried and meant it.
"I have no ground for mortals to tread upon." Violaceous said and tears mingled with the droplets of water raining from the spout.
Heli could not bare this and leaned and rubbed his cheek against hers. "Hush, goddess, do you want earth? He asked her.
With her hand on his chest, the two of them covered in spray she said, "I want earth and stone, I want hard."
Heli found that irresistible so he began to shape. he made stoneways for canals, and earth for trees. He made sand for beaches and gems to sparkle. From the earth came orchids and hemp, poppies and sugar, spices and herbs.
It was not like his land, it was, in her words, hard but the moon shown down on it and as it grew it became mysterious. Violaceous laughed and stroked, teased and touched, murmured and persuaded.
"Promise me not to use the water. dry the rivers and falls. I want to be all the water in the world." Heli, laying over her, mouth to mouth whispered his promise against her lips.
When he had gone Violaceous sat upon the stone he had made for her. She hated the mortal woman but decided that the creature couldn't live very long and soon it would be dead, for she knew the magic of time. Feeling quite alone, and having a deceitful nature in the first place, Violaceous thought that if the time should come that Heli would anger with her and take his gifts back she wanted something that was just hers, so she began to create a being from her own magic. She captured moonlight, water and air. she summoned flesh and bone. Using the imagination power, for her it was slight but useful, she created a being. It had long flowing pale white hair and light lavender eyes. Such big eyes, such empty eyes. The creatures skin was almost as white as its hair. Violaceous placed a hand on the chest of the being, her other on it's forehead. "Never will you touch the earth and stone but will float above it. You will sleep in the safety of the water, in the soft pads of the night lily. Iron, silver, gold, gems, all these things will sicken you, for you are mine, of my air, my light, my water. Upon this world you will float. You will know the hearts of others, sense what they feel, and should you desire it, increase that emotion by half, then by half again." She laughed and thought of Heli's mortal woman. "I could frighten her, drive her from him and never touch her. With you along it would multiply until her reason was gone." Having some foresight, Violaceous realized this could be a disaster. If the feelings did not return to normal once the floater was gone, Heli would know it was magic, and worse, know where it came from..."The emotions will return to normal once you are beyond a stone throw for the affected creature. You must be in the direct line of sight for the emotions to increase, my floater. You will live long, 500 years and mate with only your kind. Your voice is enchanting , your beauty haunting." Violaceous, a self centered being, did not yet realized that haunting and enchanting, were individual opinions.
The moon goddess closed her eyes, and with time magic, made the rhythms of the heart begin. When Violaceous opened her eyes again the large expressive eyes of the floater watched her with curious intelligence.
"Floater." Violaceous names the second mortal race, "With intensity and feeling, I give you to the world."
The large lavender eyes of the floater blinked slowly as thought settled in his head. "Never fear, I will make another, for you must mate." Then Violaceous laughed, the music of the moon, "And it is...so...wondrous."
